BASKETBALL

The MSSA -Mumbai Indians Annual Inter School Basketball Tournaments were held from November 2014 to February 2015.

The tournaments for Boys and Girls Seniors, Under 16 years were held from November 24 to December 10, 2014. The matches were held at the Indian Gymkhana, Matunga and Nagpada Basketball Association, Nagpada Basketball courts. The Finals were held on December 10, 2014 at Nagpada Basketball Association, Nagpada. Mr. Abbas Moontasir, Basketball International and Arjuna Awardee presided as Chief Guest and Mr. Afzal Khan and Mr. Gulam Rasool Khan both Internationals presided as Guest of Honour.

The tournament for boys and girls, Mini, Under 13 years were held from January 6 to January 22, 2015. The matches were held at the Indian Gymkhana, matunga. The Finals were held January 22, 2015 at the Indian Gymkhana, matunga. Mr. Vinod Mutha Kumar, basketball Secretary for Indian Gymkhana, matunga presided while Mr. Abraham John and Mr. Babu Pandit both former national Basketball players presided as Guest of Honour.

The tournament for Boys and Girls, Midgets, Under 11 years were held from February 2,  to February 13, 2015 . Thanks to the president Fr. Jude Rodrigues and Hon. Gen. Secretary Mr. Sebastian Fernandes, The Matches could be held at the MSSA Tennis Courts, Azad Maidan. Fr. Jude Rodrigues presided as Chief Guest  while Mr. Sebastian presided as Guest of Honour along with Susan mathews, Ms. Esperance Mascarenhas D’Souza Former National basketball players. The Fianls were held on February 13, 2015 which was a grand affair because it was appreciated by the coaches, parents and  team followes because it was the safest playground for the young basketballers.

The Association extended its heartfelt thanks to Mr. Jayant Lapsia, President, Mr. ___________ Muthukumar, Hon. Gen. Secretary and Mr. Vinod Muthukumar, Basketball Secretary of Indian Gymkhana, Matunga for placing their basketball court for MSSA to conduct the matches. The Association also extends its thanks to Mr. Afzal Khan and Mr. Noor Mohd. Khan for allowing the Association to conduct the matches on their basketball court.

The Association places special thanks to all the Guest who presided  at all the finals of all the tournaments by taking time off from their busy schedules.

It is very heartingn to see that basketball is being played in most of the schools in Mumba City and the suburbs this year we had 48 teams in the boys under 16 years and 49 teams in the Girls under 16 years age group while 49 boys teams and 50 girls team participated in the under 13 years age group. The under 11 years age group had 44 teams in the boys section and 44 teams in the girls section.
