The Mumbai Schools Sports Association is a Sports promoting body, which caters to Sports needs of over 60 thousand School children of the City of Mumbai every year where over 360 schools of all denominations are its members.
Sir Dorabji Jamshedji Tata started the association with the help of a band of few sports minded principals of schools in 1893. The association which was started with the Tata Athletic Shield (1893) donated by the House of Tata’s was formerly known as The Bombay High Schools Athletic Association is now known as Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA). Its is 122 years old and is one of the oldest associations of its kind in the world. This is also the only association of its kind in the whole of Asia which organises and conducts tournaments in more than 19 games and disciplines of sports from the grass root level such as Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Judo, Indian Games (Kabaddi, Kho-Kho), Lawn Tennis, Squash, Table-Tennis, Throwball and Volleyball. These tournaments are conducted from the tender age of 8 to 16 years, and around 60 thousand students from Std 1 to std. 10 participate in the competitions annually.
Harris Shield and Giles Shield Cricket Tournaments organised by Mumbai Schools Sports Association are a stepping stone for more than 60 living test cricketers of Mumbai. The other games organised have also produced a large number of sportsmen and sportswomen who have represented our country in their respective sport at the Asian Games, Comman Wealth Games and at the Olympics.

• 111th Harris Shield Cricket Tournament since (1896)
• 106th Giles Shield Cricket Tournament since (1901)
• 106th Junior Aga Khan for Hockey since 1901
The Association is an NGO, which is purley a sports organisation, non commercial and runs on no profit basis
The Office bearers and Executive Committee Members of the Association are all honorary workers employed elsewhere in various institutions, doing yeomen service to sports by devoting their valuable time and talents free of cost.
